Netflix's Hustle is a 2022 American drama film directed by Jeremiah Zagar, starring Adam Sandler, Robert Duvall, and Queen Latifah. Sandler stars as an NBA scout who discovers a raw but brilliant player (Juancho Hernangómez) in Spain and tries to prepare him for the NBA draft.
A fictional story of Stanley Sugerman (Adam Sandler), a washed-up talent scout for the Philadelphia 76ers. While on an assignment in Spain, he spots Bo Cruz, a young construction worker hustling on a basketball court. Cruz is clearly a basketball star-in-the-making, which is good news for Sugerman, who has been struggling to find a player worthy enough to be considered for the NBA.
During one scene, Sandler trains Hernangómezg using various methods and equipment, including lights attached to the wall and cones. What are those lights you ask? They happen to be the original sports training light system, FITLIGHT. This light training system uses LED lights to create a challenging and stimulating environment. It trains a players visual response, and the FITLIGHT system can have a positive impact on anyone who uses it in a professional sports training environment.
So, What is FITLIGHT?
FITLIGHT is a cutting-edge reaction training system that uses lights to create unique and challenging training scenarios. The system is designed to improve reaction time, speed, and agility, and it is used by professional athletes and teams worldwide.
It uses patented wireless light sensors, with the ability to deactivate by motion or touch, as well as proprietary training programs to challenge users with engaging, powerful tasks. The lights are used as targets for the user to deactivate and can be adapted and configured for all sports and training regimes.
How The FITLIGHT Works
After every session, the system records the performance and gives immediate feedback, including the coordination, speed, reaction time, and fitness level.
FITLIGHT is designed to train the body and the brain, improving reaction time, mental accuracy, and sensory processing by training the connection between what your eyes see and your brain processes. The system provides immediate feedback of hits, misses, average reaction time, and total time to complete the drill or exercise.
How is FITLIGHT Used For Basketball?
FITLIGHT is easily implemented into basketball training. It does not replace training but enhances it by providing a visual stimulus to engage with and immediate feedback to measure progress. Adding FITLIGHT into any training improves scanning, mental warmup, combat mental fatigue, peripheral vision, decision making, and processing speed in any sports vision training. Here are some examples of specific drills that can be done for Basketball:
Read & React Crossover Drill
Lateral speed is essential to any basketball player's defensive skill set. This drill challenges the player to be as fast and explosive as possible while moving laterally. When attempting this drill, remember always to maintain an athletic position while leaning into change of direction.
How It Works:
1️. Using five lights, place the first light on a tripod and the remaining 4 lights 10 yards away from the first light.
2. Deactivate the first light (located on the tripod)
3. Then, deactivate 1 of the 4 light and return to the first light.
4. Repeat
To The Rim Drill
This drill is an ideal drill for speed training and to increase your strength and maximize your performance. The central concept of this drill is to be fast and explosive.
How It Works:
1️. Using 7 lights, place the first light at the top of the key and the remaining 6 lights ( 3 on each side of the lane line ).
2️. Player begins the drill at the first light and deactivates the light, which is activated on either the left or right side.
3️. Player then returns to the first light and repeats the drill.
Face Off Reaction Drill
Strength and conditioning coach Jon Lee of the Toronto Raptors demonstrates a face-off reaction drill. This drill exercises the fundamental footwork and steps up your offensive game.
How It Works:
1. Place lights on stands or tripods
2. Player will dribble with the right hand (or dominant hand) and deactivate the lights with the left or (non-dominant hand)
These are just a few drills you can implement into basketball training with FITLIGHT.
